My story, and 15 day flat abs sneak peak.
Posted by Trainer Andi on Tuesday, August 9, 2016
Meet Andrea: wife, mother, student, fitness instructor, Zumba lover, goal setter, motivator, and the newest trainer for Flat Abs Fitness.
“I’m Andi Veenker! I was born and raised in Utah. I’m currently attending Utah Valley University pursuing a bachelor degree in Exercise Science. I’m married to the most wonderful, supportive man and together we have two perfect boys, Ashton (3) and Cohen (1), who are the most active, and happy kids you’ll ever meet.
Growing up, I actually never really liked exercise. Go figure! Looking back, I realize that this was mostly because I hadn’t yet found the exercise format or regimen that worked for me. This all changed in 2009 when I discovered Zumba and was instantly hooked. Who knew fitness could be fun?! I loved it so much that in 2010, I certified as a Zumba Fitness instructor. In the years that followed, I certified as a personal trainer, a Les Mills BodyPump and CXWORX instructor, and a few other additional certifications to round things out.
Making fitness a priority has worked wonders for my physical and mental health. Through lifting, clean eating and cardio, I’ve not only lost baby weight and gained muscle, I’ve also been able to beat the postpartum anxiety, and depression I suffered with after my first baby was born.
Ashton was born back in 2013.
He was perfect. I was not. I remember absolutely hating my body. I would look at myself with disgust, because I wasn’t as “hot” as I was before this new baby body. I tried all sorts of quick fixes: skinny wraps, “toning” creams, I even tried NOT EATING… I was over cardio-ing, teaching and taking a million aerobic classes just trying to shed weight…
THAT WAS NOT THE WAY.
Once I received some serious professional help, and was mentally okay, I discovered I was pregnant with our second little boy.
That pregnancy was rough. I lived in the hospital, because I had Hyperemesis, or HG. I couldn’t eat or take care of my little one, my husband or myself. I couldn’t teach or exercise. I was on complete bedrest.
I had every reason to feel depressed again- I thought. I was weak, helpless and felt like a burden to everyone around me.
INSTEAD of letting depression consume me, I turned to my God, and asked for strength. I made a deal with Him, that if I took the time to take care of myself, my health, and my family, he would take care of my body image disorders and insecurities.
I decided to take my depression by the reigns and take control of the few things I could at the time. I prayed with all my power and might to be able to love my body and all its imperfections during and after my pregnancy.
I surrounded myself with positive people who loved me and reminded me constantly about how amazing bodies actually are- mine included.
As soon as baby came – it was like that movie “Shallow Hall”. I saw myself and everyone around me as gorgeous, perfect beings. I couldn’t see imperfections in anyone or anything. It sounds silly, but it’s TRUE. I saw positivity and light in everyone around me! I took time to EAT and SLEEP.
I found joy in being a mom, wife and human for the first time in YEARS, because I took the time to take care of myself, ALONG WITH my family.
I sought out coaches to guide me, and hold me accountable. People to make sure I was eating and help me figure out how my new, post pregnancy body worked. They helped me be STRONG and learn HOW, WHEN, and WHAT to eat.
Their example and care motivated me to learn more and inspired me to completely overhaul how I trained my clients.
I went from the lowest of lows, to the highest of highs. I am now the healthiest and happiest version of me, EVER. Two babies and stretch marks, and I’m in the best shape of my life.
I love myself.
I love my body.
All I want is the opportunity to help others feel the same for themselves, through assisting in their fitness journeys.
I’m currently working as a fitness instructor at Utah Valley University while subbing at a couple other gyms. It’s the greatest job in the world! I can say without hesitation that fitness has changed my life. I’ve had the opportunity to work with and learn from so many different people! To see my students change and begin to love and care for their bodies and themselves is such a joy, and ultimately makes me want to work as hard as possible to create and provide fun, inspiring, results oriented workouts. I love them all so much!
In addition to my teaching responsibilities, I lift 6 days a week and add in cardio on most of those days too. I love walking into the gym first thing in the morning when the moon is still out, and finishing with the sunrise. This also works out best with my schedule so that I can be finished and ready for the day by the time my little ones are awake. My goal since having my last baby was to work hard and become my healthiest, happiest self. Any aesthetic results have just been a bonus!
I’m a goal setter. My initial goal with my weight loss journey started with the desire to re-learn to love my body by feeding it well, and working hard. I wanted to take my journey to social media (Instagram: @andimaree, Facebook: Trainer Andi) to show the world, or whoever would listen that there is no such thing as a quick fix. I want long lasting, and real results that can only happen with clean eating and hard work. I’ve set out to prove to everyone and anyone that if a mom of two can lose weight, they can too. If I can reach the best physical shape of my life, even after having children, going to school and working- anyone can! I want to inspire and empower women everywhere to let go of fear and limitations and become their best selves, because they absolutely can! I literally cannot wait to go on this journey with you!

September 1, 2016Hi Trainer Andi,
I am 47, soon to be 48 years old. I have been active and fit all my life but the past year I have gained 20 lbs and the more I work out the more I don’t move the scale. I have acquired a ‘spare tire’ around my middle (where I usually have a very flat and toned mid-section). I’ve tried so many different diets and work outs. I am going to my 30 year high school reunion in late September and I just don’t want to look like a middle-aged mom (even if I am one). 🙂
I’m really looking forward to the new 15 day challenge. I did the flat abs 15 day challenge in early July and got some results but then we went on holiday for a couple of weeks and it all fell apart again. I need a kick start and I need one today.
Welcome to Flat Abs. I’m happy to have you as my personal trainer. Looking forward to your new 15 day challenge.

September 1, 2016I am tired of being fat! I began trying to lose weight because I had gotten so big, and sluggish, and my diabetes was so out of control. I have managed to lose +- 35 pounds but it is not enough. I have managed to get off insulin but I need to get healthier so I can completely get off all medication. My only restrictions are my feet. I have permanent nerve damage on my left foot as a result of reconstructive surgery to fix a fallen arch. And I have plantar fascitis on my right foot. Zumba is out of the question! I have to modify some workouts because of the pain and it sometimes feels like I am not getting everything I should out of a workout……….No fear, just limitations 🙁

September 1, 2016Hi trainer andi-
Just want you to know that your story hit me in a spot that no trainer has ever been able to do. You here all the time how trainers look the way they do because they used to be overweight and hated how they look. However, you never hear the side that you shared. I, too, suffer from depression and anxiety. I have been diagnosed with eating disorders. I have done almost the exact same things that you have in regards to appearance and getting “thin.” It makes me unbelievably happy to know that it’s possible to break through the toughest barriers one can face: yourself. You inspire me to keep going. To keep trying. To never give up. Thank you for sharing your story, because like me, I know there are other girls out there feeling the exact same way.

September 2, 2016I also loved your video; the honesty, the rawness, and sincerity! You’re real, not just a super hyped-up trainer who never told how they got started or why. The ‘why’ for me is really important. I know a ton about fitness and eating healthy and yet, for some reason, I continue to make poor choices. I think I need a push from someone like you! You’ve ‘been there, done that’ and you’ve shown your vulnerability. I’m praying that I can make better choices and show my two children a healthy, happy mom!! Thank you for this opportunity!

September 2, 2016Hi Andi
Thank you so much for sharing your story with the world. It was truly inspiring. I found myself laughing and crying right along with you. I can relate to so many of the things you talked about. Like you I also have 2 boys and I haven’t felt good about my body in a long time. I hate looking in the mirror or at photos, cameras don’t lie. Like you I’ve asked my God to help me become a better me so I can be a better mom and wife. You may just be his answer to my prayers. I look forward to this 15 day challenge. I’m sure it’s not going to be easy but I know it’ll be worth it.
Thank you

September 4, 2016Hi Andrea, thank you for such a courageous testimony of truth in your own vulnerability and personal journey. I have done the flababsfitness challenge twice and have been on a journey to wellness and peace in God my whole life at 49. I am starting Holy Yoga certification and have been practicing clean eating, which is great! You are awesome and I know you are in amazing shape and will be able to do another video on “form” in the future if you choose too or haven’t already. It is so easy stay in the shallow waters of vanity and skim over hard realities and trials, but thank you for getting to the truth and the heart of the matter. I too have overcome self hatred from body image issues. What a joy to know you are loved and to love yourself and others. I heard a bible teacher once say and pray for us to “bless our bodies at all times,” it is Gods gift and vehicle of choice for us” She actually had us lay hands on our hearts and even areas that we did not like on our body and asked us to thank God for them and bless them and change our hearts. It changed my life! I am not saying I dont struggle on occasion? I also have to be careful of how I am talking or how others are talking around me as I can regress so easily, but I now have the wisdom to know the difference and get out of bad self talk asap. Words are powerful and a great indicator of how I am doing.
Looking forward to your 15 day challenge, these 15 day challenges have been a great part of my wellness days and worksouts. Blessings, Jewels Niccum
